Collectives and Collaborations

Everything you need to know about pitching through Radar if you're a collective or pitching as collaborators.

We would call you a collective if more than one person is responsible for the director role, either within each video or across the series of videos you have on your credits. We would call you an individual - and not a collective - if you have a production company behind you, but you are always responsible for the director role. Our definition of a director for Radar's purposes is the person who creates the pitch and ensures the video is made as described in the pitch. A director could be working entirely on their own or be directing many other people in order to achieve those aims.

If your membership is as a collective, please make sure your credits separate work you've produced as your current collective from any work individual members may have created outside your collective. If you haven't produced any work together yet, please state that you are a new collective. Please explain how your collective works - ie shared direction, rotating directors. Your profile will be ranked according to the work you produced as your current collective. If there isn't any work yet, it will be marked down slightly (you haven't proved you can produce results together), but the achievements of individual members will influence ranking. Please note...we assume the worst if profiles are unclear or a bit vague about exactly what individuals have worked on, their role etc etc.

It's possible to get good rankings as a new collective if your members are all skilled and experienced in music video.

Collectives can be a great way of adding strength and depth to your pitching power but they can also mask a whole host of problems like patchy skills or inability to teamwork. The more clients know about you, the more they'll trust what they're buying. Give us the full picture on your profile. When you submit your pitch do it under your collective name and state who'll be directing.

This is about making Radar as safe and reliable as we can for clients. As it benefits everyone, we're mean with fuzzy details, mysterious collective members with no credits, credits like 'I have worked on' (which we assume as a runner, very respectable, but not directing).

And finally, names. Collectives can't seem like individuals in member profiles. For instance, 'Janet Smyth' can't start sprouting other filmmakers who submit through 'Janet Smyth'. 'Janet Smyth Productions' can submit pitches from any of the filmmakers named on the profile, submitting as 'Janet Smyth Productions'. If you need to change your username to fit these guidelines, contact info@radarmusicvideos.com and we'll help you through.
