Submitting Treatments
Viewing briefs and pitching
Only directors and mentored members can view briefs and submit treatments. If you're a Free member, upgrade from the link on your homepage. Client members who want to submit treatments, please contact us.

Treatment formats
There is no standard format for treatments. You might find useful tips in Dougal Wilson's video. Submit as cut and paste or as a pdf. You are welcome to submit mood boards as pdfs. Please keep individual files under 1mb each. We don’t accept sample quicktime files within the folder but you are welcome to add a link to files hosted elsewhere (nb this is for treatment videos only – link showreel videos to your profile).

Your Profile and Ranking
Please make sure your profile is up to date - particularly your music video director credits and links to your music videos and showreel. We prefer you to add these videos to the site if you would - it makes it many times easier for clients to get through profile checks. Many director's own websites, though beautiful, can take a long time to load and users often have to navigate an unfamiliar site to find your work off site.
We always rank every director who submits a treatment. We'll do it based on the info in your profile. You'll be able to see your rank, so will the client, but no other director or free members will be able to see it. Everyone will see if you have a 'commissioned director' or 'featured video' star. If we've left off a star or you think your rank is wrong, please contact us.

Not allowed in comments or in treatments
Individual directors cannot submit treatments as executive directors, producers or in any other way on behalf of someone else who would actually direct.
Please do not offer to make a video for less than the budget.
See community guidelines regarding possible sanctions.

Confirming treatment submission and editing treatments
You should get an email confirming your treatment has been submitted.
You can see and edit your treatment any time up to the pitch deadline from the 'submitted treatments' link on your homepage under the 'me' menu.

How Clients use the pitch folder
Clients go through treatments in the folder after pitch deadline, where they also see your ranking and your avatar. Clients click your avatar to link to your profile and see your credits and examples of work. They can contact you using the onsite contact form (if you have enabled onsite messaging in your settings) or through numbers/emails you’ve supplied in your treatment.
Radar doesn’t get involved in assessing treatments unless requested by the client.

Feedback from Clients or Radar
There is no feedback about individual treatments. You can see how many treatments have been submitted to each brief the number is displayed in the bottom right hand corner of the brief.

Commissions - announcing decisions
We know this is important to you. Please read this carefully!
News is posted in this blog. Clients may take a while to reach a decision and there may be no news for some time.
We know directors are often juggling schedules but please don’t request updates. It’s in Radar’s interests to get a quick decision (we don’t get paid unless a brief goes to commission), emailing us for news doesn’t make it happen faster, it just hassles us :) Though if you're really, really, really desperate, we won't bite your head off if you do email.

it would be nice if there was a notification or announcement with regards to whether a radar member got the contract or if it went elsewhere. beyond the success stories section i mean.

Also, I've been wondering how many people pitch on each video. Where can we look at other people's pitches and mood board? Can we make that kind of thing public? I mean, it should be up to the director whether or not their particular pitch is public, but I would love to see a dump box where we can et examples of what other people are doing.

I think it might be beneficial to make the pitches public even before a director is chosen. Submission date would prevent copying on purpose and access to what other people are suggesting would prevent copying on accident.

Are the budgets mentioned with or without VAT/TAX ?

the production budget is to deal with all any cost incurred by filmmakers so factor in tax if that is one of your relevant outgoings. Not implying that you or anyone would fall into this, but be aware that asking for additional funds after commission is against Radar's rules (see filmmaker Terms and conditions) and is one of the things that can lead to a blocked account.

while I'm here, these things have been discussed elsewhere but in case you don't know: Members are able to make their own pitches public if they want to, but to date I don't think anyone has. I'm planning to up a wiki for members to create a step by step guide to pitching and share tips, many members are keen to get insights into pitching and this could be a good way to do it.

news about commissions is always posted on the comment thread of the relevant brief, as soon as we are able to post news.

thanks for questions, do flag up more if you have them.
