One of Radar’s most recent successes is the video for Emmy award winning singer and songwriter Faith Rivera’s single “This little light of mine.” Directed by Ann Xiao, the video is an animated feature with a colourful uplifting style that fits perfectly with the inspirational flavour of the song. Such was the strength of the video that it was made staff pick of the week on Vimeo as well as being featured on MTV Iggy.
But Ann’s animation didn’t begin life as a music video. When Faith originally approached Radar, she was looking for visuals to accompany her live show. She came across published comic artist, illustrator and director Ann Xiao who created the vibrant visuals to match Faith’s soulful performance.
Despite working with a low budget, Ann successfully completed the video in 2 weeks. Its impressiveness though meant that Faith was able to use it as a promo, as she explains:
“I was honestly surprised with the response to the video. It wasn't created, at least in my mind, as a stand alone video that would be enjoyed outside of live performance showings. So it's a great surprise to see that folks can enjoy Ann's work as well as my positive, upbeat version of this song purely as a video up on the internet. I'm really happy about this!”
Good to know then that it is still great content that is key to a successful promo as Faith and Ann have proven with their accidental music video.
